Price Key was born on June 5, 1754 in Mattapony Va. He enlisted in the service at the age of sixteen or seventeen in 1775, and served 6 years as a soldier in the Revolutionary War. He and was in the War of Independence until the last trumpet was blown and actually saw the surrender of the British at Yorktown on October 19, 1781. In the winter of 1777 _ 1778, he endured sufferings at Valley Forge with the Continental troops. He was the grandfather of Mary Key Martin. Price died on July 14, 1829 in Parren Co., Kentucky.
Price and Sarah McQueen were married in Parren County on March 17, 1786. Sarah was born in Kentucky in 1761, and died in the same state in 1841.
Sally (Sarah) Scholl was born March 31, 1804 in Kentucky. She died on June 19, 1882 at the home of Mary Key Martin, her daughter.
Marshall married Sally Scholl,
both natives of Kentucky. They moved to Griggsville County, Illinois with the Scholl family in 1825. The family became active in the life of the community, and in 1838 Marshall Key became involved in an election contest for constable of Griggsville, Illinois. Marshall, a democrat and pro_slavery was opposed by D.F. Coffey, a whig who was anti_slavery. A hot contest ensued resulting in the election of Coffey. The Key forces resented the results and alleged fraud. Opposing candidates came to blows.
The Marshall Key family left Griggsville in 1841 for the territory of Wisconsin and located near Montfort. From there they moved on to Lancaster and Beetown where he engaged in lead mining for many years. During his later years, Marshall farmed and ran a saw mill in Sandy Hollow, near Bagley.
